TEDxCorbin: Appalachia's First TEDx

TEDxCorbin

Big things happen when people get together to discuss important issues. Connections are made. People disagree, are challenged. That is healthy and important. To address the complex issues facing our region, we need to hear divergent viewpoints. We must hear these differing perspectives and work together on solutions. Central Appalachia is a region with a rich heritage and deep history of cultural contributions, now taken for granted by the greater population. In a place all too used to turmoil, one thing has remained constant: a well-established sense of place. Crystal Kinser came to us with a big dream: to launch Appalachia’s first ever TEDx event.

We worked with the TEDxCorbin team to design the identity, website, event collateral, and creative vision for the day. We worked within the TEDx brand guidelines — black, red, white and Helvetica — to create a consistent and ownable logotype for the theme of the day: Grounded. The sold-out event featured talks and performances from residents of Appalachia. We heard from a diversity of voices, all challenging notions of what’s possible for the future of the region. We were excited to do our part in helping Appalachia join the global conversation.
